The Winter Warrior Challenge™ is back to kick off 2019! We challenge you to run or walk OUTSIDE every day in the month of January. Registration is currently closed and participants are hitting the pavement.
If you are not competing this year, join us next year. Track your mileage every day using our online platform and see how you stack up against the rest of the state. Living out in the Quiet Corner and trying to compete with your family on the Gold Coast? No problem – all the mileage is inputted remotely by you and can be completed ANYWHERE outdoors! Read on below to learn all about the Winter Warrior Challenge™!
The Winter Warrior Challenge is designed to start the year off on a happy and healthy note by getting us up and off the couch and into fresh air. Who wants to spend time in a crowded gym with all those New Year’s Resolutioners, anyway?
Each day in the month of January, run (or walk) at least one mile OUTSIDE, and track your mileage through your Winter Warrior account. You are responsible for knowing the mileage that you’ve run – if you don’t have a GPS running watch, check out free online resources like the Google Pedometer or MapMyRun. You can also link your Strava account up to Winter Warrior via the Strava tab (when you are logged in).
Log in to your Winter Warrior account on winterwarrior.com and click the ‘Log a Run/Walk’ button, which is located under the ‘Summary’ tab. You can also click the date on the calendar display to log your miles. Additionally, you can log a run through the ‘Activity Log’ tab.
The challenge dictates that you run or walk outside every day in January. Unfortunately, if you miss a day, you’re OUT! So get on out there!
You have four days to post mileage for a given run. You MUST log your mileage in this window – if you forget and miss the four day deadline, you are OUT. Unfortunately there are NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy. Do whatever you need to do to remember to log your runs! Set an alert on your phone, have a friend remind you, write on your hand…because if you forget to do so, you’re out of the challenge.
When registering, select the soundRUNNER store location that is most convenient to you. Your gear will be sent there, and you will be given instructions on when you can pick it up. Items will NOT be shipped out and MUST be picked up within two weeks of receiving notification of arrival via email. Merchandise can be expected to arrive in stores in roughly mid-February. If you order items, you will be notified via the email that you signed up with. Your gear will be sent to the store you selected at the beginning of the registration process.
If you cannot pick up your items after the completion of the event, please do not purchase, as refunds will not be given.
Go to WinterWarrior.com, click the “Forgot Password” link and enter the email you used to sign up for your account last year. An email will will be sent to that email address with a password reset link.
First, make sure you’re logged in to your Winter Warrior account. Also, make sure that you are entering mileage under the correct date (the system will not allow you to log any runs more than four days out from the current date). If you’re still having trouble, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
In order for the system to have access to your activities on Strava, you must first give access to the Winter Warrior system by authorizing use under the “Your Strava” tab on WinterWarrior.com. Once authorized, you’ll need to make sure your activities on Strava are listed as Public instead of Private in order to be recognized. If your activities are listed as Private, your data will not be uploaded.
Activities are downloaded every 30 minutes automatically; however, you can manually click the download button in the “Your Strava” tab to update your runs immediately.
You don’t need to commit to a daily mileage goal when you sign up – the system will auto-assign your level based on the runs that you log in January. Remember, you must hit the mileage benchmark EVERY DAY to remain in that category. These categories are not based on average mileage per day, but rather, actual mileage for each day.
For instance, if you run 5 miles a day for 30 days in January, but run 1 mile for the 31st day of January, you will end up in the Bronze category.
You have four days to edit your mileage log in your Winter Warrior account. You can go in, select the run that is incorrect, and edit it. If you are beyond the four day window, please email email@example.com.
First, check to make sure you’ve logged miles for every day in January. For example, if you didn’t log your run from yesterday yet, you will fall off the board until that day is logged. If you failed to run for even a single day in January, your name will no longer appear on the active leaderboard.
If your name does not appear on the leaderboard, and all your runs are logged correctly, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
